In week 1 we see that the narcissism of modern society has had an effect on the Evangelical gospel message. We often frame the gospel around ourselves so that the content of the gospel becomes a proclamation on how we can to go to heaven or escape hell.
This, however, is not the gospel that we find in Scripture – which plainly centers its gospel around the death, resurrection, and Lordship of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:1-5; Romans 10:9-10). We propose that once the Evangelical Church realigns its gospel back to this biblical message, its functionality will be optimized. It will draw people to Jesus and his mission rather than a benign personal eschatology.
Finally we begin to investigate the fullness of the gospel by highlighting the importance of the Old Testament in understanding Jesus’ mission and self-understanding.
