GospelIn week 7, we took a look at the self-understanding of Jesus. We saw that Jesus considered himself to be the unique Son of God as well as the heir of Israel. Furthermore, we saw that, although he identified himself as Messiah, Jesus preferred to refer to himself as the Son of Man; a figure who, in Daniel 7, is “given dominion and glory and a kingdom” as he approaches the Ancient of Days.

Above all of titles however, the most significant with regard to Jesus’ self-understanding is the Servant of the Lord who in Isaiah 49, not only brings back the preserved of Israel, but is established as a light for the nations and a covenant for the people.
